Union Street Café’s Executive Head Chef, Davide Degiovanni, has a passion for Italian food, as he hails from Northern Italy. He started his culinary career at the one Michelin-starred Picasso Room in 2002.  Since then, he has worked in several Michelin-starred restaurants and five-star hotels in London and abroad before opening Union Street Café in 2013.

Davide’s interest in South East Asian ingredients and cooking styles has inspired him to combine this passion with his Italian roots to create an Italian-Asian fusion menu. He admires Asian cuisine because the flavours and the techniques are so varied, ranging from simple and light dishes to spicy street food.

Davide’s Supper Club Menu

For one night only, on 30 April 2019, Davide and his team will be bringing this exciting fusion menu to Union Street Café. This will be a supper club style event, held in the beautiful subterranean ‘Olive Grove’, underneath the main restaurant. Davide has combined light Asian flavours with the Mediterranean cuisine he knows so well, to create something unique and special.

He says that he is ‘excited about this event because I like to create and reinvent. It’s always an interesting challenge trying to combine something that it’s so different at first but often we then discover that in cuisine everything is possible as long as we respect the purity of the ingredients. It will be a discovery experience for everyone’.

Guests will experience a traditional Aperitivo cocktail, alongside four delicious courses, combining ingredients such as Burrata, a cow’s milk cheese from Southern Italy, with Japanese Wasabi. Other courses will see the Italian classic carbonara given a Vietnamese twist, and a dessert of citrusy Yuzu, originally from China, combined with sweet Italian olives and honey.

This menu is designed to celebrate different ingredients and ways of cooking, bringing them together to create something fresh and introduce new flavours to our guests.

Davide says: ‘I always like to explore, and I feel that this is a very interesting combination. The fusion of different cuisines always brings something exciting, new and different. The sweetness of Iberico ripe tomatoes will marry perfectly with the bonito rice vinegar & brined mackerel. The creaminess of the burrata with be elevated by the wasabi salsa verde. The noble and rare flavour of Yuzu mixed with salted capers will give the sorbet a unique & particular flavour, the list can go on and on!’
