NBA London: Raising The Steaks

Wednesday 16 January 2019

NBA2019 CG 0983

As the London NBA game approaches, Gordon Ramsay set NBA Legends Caron Butler and Shawn Marion to a steak challenge at the iconic Savoy Grill. Question is, who could handle the heat?

Looking for another reason to Love January? On Thursday 17 January, the National Basketball Association (NBA) are returning to London, for a one-night event where fans will watch the Washington Wizards vs. New York Knicks. The annual event marks the ninth regular-season NBA game to be played in London and is just another reason why we love London this winter!

In celebration of the game and to welcome the NBA to the UK, we set NBA Legends Caron Butler and Shawn Marion to a different type of challenge, one where they would compete to see who could cook the best rib-eye steak, at our steak masterclass at Savoy Grill.

With the help from Executive Development Chef Jocky Petrie and Savoy Grill Head Chef Ben Waugh, each legend was taught everything from trimming and seasoning, to searing and caramelising their steak, before learning to flambé the all-important accompanying peppercorn sauce.

Helping judge the competition was Sky Sports Jamie Redknapp, and surprising the NBA Legends with his own feedback was chef Gordon Ramsay himself.
