The Rothschild Champagne Story - Wednesday September 16

The term “family rivalries” doesn’t ring any truer than when speaking of the Rothschild’s. It has taken around 200 years for the three branches of this wine-making dynasty of a family to agree to a joint family project. There was no other wine other than Champagne to be discussed. Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Chateau Lafite Rothschild and Chateau Clarke, collaborated in the mid-2000’s and created a single vision.

Employing the finest wine-making team, headed by Frederic Mairesse, with experience gained at stages with Champagne Pommery, Veuve-Clicquote and Ruinart. The family went about sourcing great grapes as well purchasing selected Grand Cru and 1er Cru sites, ensuring only the finest quality of grapes were to be used. With Chardonnay being the driver grape for its freshness and elegance the vision was set and production commenced. In small quantities currently there are three Non-Vintage Champagnes available today with a 2006 vintage set of release early next year. Additionally, as the families are also producing their own iconic wines today, this tasting  will include  three still wines from the various families.

Tickets are £75 per person including 3 courses, 3 Champagnes and 3 wines. To make a reservation please contact experiences@gordonramsay.com

Les Vins

Rothschild Brut NV:
The first collective Rothschild family project for 160 years. Chardonnay based, low dosage and an excellent aperitif style Champagne. Small production, “not-on-the-High-street”.

Mouton Cadet Reserve Graves Blanc:
A tremendous example of how good a dry Bordeaux white wine can be. A blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc blended and finished by the expert wine team at Baron Philippe de Rothschild.

Rothschild Rose NV:
The second in the series from the Champagne estate. Incorporating some Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, adding summer berry notes, weight on the palate and length on the finish. An excellent Rose Champagne that works extremely well with both fish and meat.

Mouton Cadet Reserve St Emilion:
From carefully selected growers the finest Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes are harvested and blended at Baron Philippe de Rothschild. A forward, smooth and elegant summer-berry red wine from this world famous estate.

Rothschild Blanc de Blanc:
Arguably the finest of the three Champagnes. Based mainly on the 2007 vintage and 100% Chardonnay from Grand Cru sites, a superb effort. A nutty, creamy palate, dry and full with a lingering heady finish.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild Sauternes:
In terms of Sauternes, this represents superb value for money. Blended and produced at Baron Philippe de Rothschild and incorporating a careful selection of Botrytised grapes from partner growers as well as from Grand Vin Chateau. Delicious yet great balance of acidity.
