Gordon Ramsay Weddings: Planning the perfect floral arrangement

Flowers are often an understated detail when planning your big day. The perfect arrangement can set the scene unlike any other part of your wedding, showcase your personality and set the tone and atmosphere of your grand occasion.

But when it comes to planning your floral arrangements how can you ensure you bloom? We caught up with Rob Van Helden Floral Design as he sets a beautiful installation in our Mayfair Ballroom.

WHERE DID YOUR INSPIRATION COME FOR THE TABLESPACE DESIGNED FOR THE BALLROOM?

The Ballroom lent itself as a blank canvas for any designer with its vast open space, crystal chandeliers and natural daylight.  We wanted to bring out the space with a simple and opulent design by using happy seasonal and elegant flowers to compliment the gilded gold tableware. The design came from traditional timeless aspects such as gold candelabras and mixed gold vases and we embedded modern elements into the design with gold mirrored vases and antique china parrots.  We used baby pink Cloni ranunculi’s, Sweet Avalanche roses, Secret Garden roses and Madame Bombastic spray roses, lime green hypericum berries, green hellebores, palest pink bouvardia, green Guelder roses and Colombian pale green hydrangeas to complete this wedding floral design.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROCESS WHEN WORKING WITH A WEDDING COUPLE?

What’s most important to us is meeting and listening to our couples to best execute exactly what their requirements are. We envision that it’s our own wedding event in order to be satisfied with everything we do for our couples. We can’t produce a wedding if we are not happy with the ideas and execution of the design.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE FLOWERS TO USE FOR A STATEMENT CENTREPIECE?

We love to use hydrangeas or stocks “en masse” especially in the summer when they are in full bloom.  Hydrangeas big fluffy flower heads create such an impact whilst stocks have the most glorious scent, that fills up a room.  We particularly like to use stocks down a wedding aisle, so that the bride can walk through the wonderful scent of summer.

WHAT IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS WHEN WORKING ON A LARGE-SCALE EVENT?

It’s a hand holding journey from beginning to end but having a large, reliable, and experienced team is essential – and of course being organised down to the last detail, is so important!
